Dance Workshop
Following the film, the Ekstasis
Dance Collective, led by Luna Ravenchilde will guide us through
a Winter Solstice Dance Ritual, a celebratory journey into the
darkness to reclaim the light, letting go of what does not serve
us from the previous year, and bringing in the new. It's a healing
journey through the body, emotions and spirit using movement,
breath, intention, and primal rhythm patterns.
Ecstatic Dance offers us
the opportunity to move beyond our perceived limitations and constrictions
- into a space where we come into contact with our innate wholeness
and unity with everything that exists. To move beyond the duality
in our everyday thinking, our inner conflicts, the disparate parts
of ourself, and find peace in the stillness of our soul.
Dance Performance
Alaya Heather Crystal will be dancing a piece and ritual offering for the Yoruban/Afro-Brazilian Orixa goddess of the ocean Llemanja and the Orixas of the Waters, and will be calling in the element of Water and the aspects of cleansing, rebirth, abundance, and the love of the divine mother. Alaya has danced, offered and prayerformed both traditional and
contemporary Brazilian dance and music for ten years. Her training comes from many Native and non-Native Brazilian dance instructors throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and the world. Her dance is also influenced by various
other trainings in African and Latin dance, Capoeira, Aerial Silks, and her eight years of experience with Firedancing. She has participated as a dancer and musician for the past 8 years in various groups for Burning Man, the California festival circuit, and community events in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has collaborated and opened for a diversity of performers such as Michael Franti, Olodum, Hamsa Lila, Wisdom, Mystic Family Circus, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Bassnectar, and Sambada. Alaya is passionate about bringing through the traditional energies and forms of authentic cultural dance while also connecting with and giving to audiences her own Source connected- tribal-love-energy dance style.
Also joining us is Jacky Essombe and dancers.
Originally from Cameroon, Jacky Essombe grew up in Paris and now lives in Vancouver. She has toured in Canada, the United States and Europe with major recording artists and has appeared on television and radio in Canada and France. From 2006 to 2007 she was the host of a weekly television show on the French CBC TV channel called "A la Carte".
A true ambassador of the African culture, Jacky's passion for her culture inspired her to become a professional dancer, dance teacher, storyteller, trainer and speaker and a TV and radio show host.
